The Golf Industry Show has come and gone, El Nino rains keep shattering weekend revenue opportunities, the Assistant-in-training educational program is around the corner and the 2009/2010 Board of Directors hiring process for our next Chapter Manager is in full swing. This months President’s message will touch on each of these topics in brevity.
It was with great privilege, as voting delegate for the San Diego Chapter, that I cast our allotted votes for two Board of Directors positions and for the next Secretary Treasurer of GCSAA. It was a close race with Bill Maynard CGCS, edging out Bob Farren CGCS, our very own Patrick Finlan CGCS, securing a nomination and confirmation from the floor and lastly, Sandy Queen sliding into the Sec./Treasure spot. We are in great hands with all of these highly skilled and dedicated individuals. Congratulations. When you get a chance, pat Troy Mullane on the back for ram-rodding the California Room. It was a great success!
Other than youth sports directors and golf course operators, who in our industry can complain about the rainfall we have been receiving this season? I love it, my golf course loves it and the migratory birds hanging out at Bonita Golf Club love it. I hope it keeps raining in predictable intervals so we can get though next weeks Assistant-in-training program at Riverwalk.
If you haven’t signed up for the March meeting do so now on our website. Geoff Haynes has worked hard on this program and has secured DPR and CEU’s for this two-day event. Thanks for your hard work in making this a great educational opportunity to our members and their standout employees. A big thanks to the Affiliate members that have donated time and resources into our 3rd Annual event, we appreciate your support. Host Superintendent, Steve Burgraff of Riverwalk G.C. deserves a round of applause for allowing us to come out to his highly manicured course and hack it around. Thank you Steve.
Members of the SDGCSA should be proud of themselves for contributing to the efforts of this year’s Board of Directors in finding our next Chapter Manager. We reviewed and processed 16 very qualified applicants, each coming from personal recommendations by you as members. Of these 16 individuals, 6 were selected for interviews. Interviewing is both time consuming and mentally draining. One of the biggest decisions we will make for the continued success of the SDGCSA is hiring the best fit for our group. The process has been very methodical and the final decision will be announced very soon. We have done our best to operate in the best interests of the Association and will continue to do so.
I look forward to seeing you at Riverwalk G.C. on March 10/11 or at the SDGCSA sponsored informational both at Cuyumaca Colleges Sustainable Landscapes Conference on March 11/12.
