The SDGCSA membership had an impressive showing at the GIS show last week in Las Vegas. It seemed like I ran into a different member every time I turned the corner. The education events were first class and the floor show had all the latest and greatest maintenance ideas. I thought this year’s California room at Las Vegas Country Club was one of the best I have seen in years. The venue was large enough to hold the 500+ attendees and the food and beverage was excellent. The SDGCSA is the host chapter for the GIS show and National Championship golf event next year, so start making plans now to take advantage of the event being held in our own back yard.

It’s that time of year again. Dues renewals will be mailed out in the next two weeks. Dues and sponsorship packages remain unchanged from last year. I would like to thank our generous affiliate members for their continued support. Without your support our association would not be able to provide the first class golfing, education and social events at the level we currently enjoy. Superintendents, remember when it comes time to do business support those that support us.

The annual election meeting is right around the corner. The election meeting is scheduled for April 19th at Arrowood Golf Course in Oceanside. Our host for this year’s event is Joe Neri. For the 2012-13 year, we currently have open one 3-year term director position and one 2-year term Affiliate Liaison position. If you have ever considered running for the board, maybe this is the year? I think you will find the experience and friendships made extremely gratifying.

The SDGCSA board hosted our annual affiliate luncheon last month at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club. We received excellent feedback from those in attendance. The event gives our affiliate members an opportunity to voice their opinion in a casual setting. One of the topics discussed was the need to have a formal fundraiser for our benevolent fund. The board has discussed some options and is in the process of finalizing a social type fundraising event that will take place sometime this summer. In addition, we have started the process of formalizing benevolent fund procedures, qualifications and guidelines that will clarify eligibility. More information will be available soon.
