Drought awareness

The summer of 2010 is going to be very hard on California Golf Courses. Mike McCullough, Diretor of Environmental and Water Resources for the Northern California Golf Association created a golf course drought contingency plan.

Online Courses to achieve a Turf Management Certificate.

Completion Requirements: certificate candidates must successfully complete (grade C or better) a total of 30 units: eight required courses (24 units) and a minimum of six elective units.

Program Prerequisites

No prior college coursework is required, but knowledge of basic mathematical and algebraic calculation, PC use and introductory botany is recommended.

Transfer Credit

Due to changing methods and advancing technologies, equivalent courses from other accredited colleges and universities will be considered for acceptance only for electives and the required courses, Principles of Plant Growth and Introduction to Chemistry for Environmental and Agricultural Professionals. Up to nine total units completed within the last five years may be applied to the certificate.

Degree and certificate programs in:

Beginning Wednesday, January 13th, the basic Turfgrass Management class will be offered at Southwestern College. Here are the details about the class:

  • Offered every Wednesday, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm
  • Begins January 13th and ends May 19th
  • Alternate Saturday labs from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. The lab dates are 1/16, 1/30, 2/20, 3/6, 3/20, 4/10, 5/1, 5/15.

In addition, should a student need it, the Soils class follows immediately on Wednesdays at 6:15 pm to 9:15 pm. It is a lecture only class and does not have any lab meeting.

Finally, this is the last time a student can take these classes tuition-free through the ROP program.
