I’ve received quite a few requests from superintendents who were going to be interviewing new
equipment managers and wanted to know what they should look for and how to tell if the person they
are hiring is the right fit for their property. Here are some important interview questions for superintendents to understand what type of technician they’re getting:
What are some career goals you’d like to reach in the next five years?
With this question, you’re looking to find out if the person is goal oriented; typically, successful people
set goals. While listening to the candidates’ responses, see if any of the attributes they tell you correspond with what you’re looking for in the position. For instance, if one of my goals were to achieve a certification, you would be able to recognize that I’m motivated and interested in learning more about my profession. If I said I wanted to make $150,000 a year, you’d know that my drive would
be towards making money. continue

It’s that time of the year again when aerification cores start flying, the grass doesn’t stop growing, the rain makes scheduling a nightmare and the temperatures start rising.
Aerification is the one cultural practice that superintendents love and equipment technicians hate. It’s the time of the year where we beat up the greens, the mowers and the staff and at about the time when everything heals we do it all over again.
Here are some helpful hints to prepare for aerification as well as to help the healing process during aerification. continue
Today marks a historic day for the IGCEMA and our industry as the IGCEMA launches registration for the first ever Virtual Trade Show. Starting today we will begin our journey to March 18th, when we open the trade show to attendees all over the world.
The Virtual Trade show was originally conceived to bring more Equipment Technicians the ability to attend a trade show, as well as Superintendents who normally didn’t make the trip to attend. With the Virtual Trade show in development over the last year we have taken advice from many manufacturers to help enhance the experience. continue

Put the chain around it. Tighten the two adjustment screws. Clamp it in your vise, and sharpen away!

If you ever are in need of removing a stubborn pulley and just don’t have that proper puller, this tip will do the trick.
What you need is:
A standard 3 – 4 leg puller, a welder, set of torches, a hand grinder with paper disc, and three 3/8 nuts and three 3/8 X 2 1/2″ to 3″ bolts with 2 washers each.
I needed to change a primary shaft bearing on a two stage snow blower and removing the pulley was first on the agenda. The puller required to remove the pulley does not exist. continue
For years we loaded top dressers and carts with half the material in the cart and half going to waste on the ground. It seamed no matter what we used the bucket was too large. That’s when the funnel idea came to mind. The funnel is 8′ by 7′. We use it to load topdressing, stones, and soil.

This is a rack I came up with for the turf 1 club car since the spreader wheels were to wide to fit on the floor board without hanging over its edge.
Supplies used are as follows:
½” square tubing
1@20”
1@16”
2@2”
Welded into a rectangle
Scrap ¼” plate angled over to hold to bumper then welded above and below the tubing
I’ve added some thumb screws to hold the bracket to the bumper
It works and frees up space in the cart for bags of fertilizer or what ever you need to spread
