Welcome …Butch Soto and David Kovack! Congratulations to Stephen Kimball (Bayer Environmental Science) and his wife Amy who welcomed twins on September 3rd at 7:59am. Jacob Ryan (5lbs 4ozs and 18” and at 8:13am, sister, Maria Isabelle (4lbs 10ozs and 17”).

Many thanks to all the donors for the upcoming Golf with a Hero on October 29th at the Golf Club of California. The affiliate membership is awesome. You are always there to assist us. Our HEROS left with donations from you! Thank you very much.

The 2008 Nominating Committee met via conference all in September to ratify the slate of candidates for the 2009 GCSAA Board of Directors. Say no to “cheese”. When you force your photo subjects to say “cheese” you often get those awkward, forced smiles. Say something different and quirky to your subjects instead. A funny little rhyme or quick joke they’re not Expecting can often get the natural smiles going. continue

As I sit here pondering our Chargers Monday Night Football game tonight against the NY Jets, I can only hope they will turn it around. By the time you read this, we will all know the answer! Hopefully Favre will have turned in a less than admirable performance. As a die hard Padre fan. It looks like a three-digit loss column is eminent … at least it won’t hurt the draft selections and quite frankly we can only improve next spring … right? Working with the Generations

Golf business leaders realize that attracting and retaining players is a different challenge than it was 10-20 years ago. A related challenge is managing today’s workers, both in the clubhouse and on the golf course. Helping us is a better understanding of generational influences on both the marketplace and the workplace, because golf facilities currently hire and market to at least four living generations.

To stereotype by generation or age is dangerous, but being aware of potential motivations and values aids in communication. A quick summary of generational dynamics follows. continue
